Johnell Barnes named ACC receiver 'ready to explode'

Published Apr. 27, 2015 8:39 a.m. ET

With standout wide receiver Jamison Crowder heading to the NFL, Duke needs a new receiver to step up and keep the offense afloat.

Will that player be Johnell Barnes?

Matt Osborne of SouthernPigskin.com thinks so, naming Barnes as one of three ACC receivers "ready to explode" in 2015. Duke head coach David Cutcliffe has had success finding replacements for this position, so Osborne believes Barnes will be the latest in a long line of productive pass-catchers.

"A slender 170 pounds, Barnes possesses outstanding speed and agility to make plays happen in the open field," Osborne wrote. "He also, however, has enough size at 6-0 to stretch plays down the field."

In two seasons at Duke, Barnes has caught 38 passes for 454 yards and a touchdown.
