Nelson looking to hold on to center opening

Center was a two-man race early in spring practice, but sophomore Derrick Nelson was the main man Saturday when Rutgers held its second major scrimmage of the spring.

"I would like to say this is my time to step up and take the reins," Nelson told NJ.com.

The opening was created by an injury to Chris Muller, a junior who started 13 games at right guard last season.

Muller is one of only two returning starters, joining senior left tackle Keith Lumpkin.
