The 2021 Masters Tournament: Top Moments from Day 2

Day 1 of The Masters Tournament was the Justin Rose Show. Day 2 was much more intriguing.

Rose entered the second day of the event with a 4-stroke lead after blazing through the course at Augusta with a first-round 65. He followed it with a decent round of 72, then watched as a host of competitors worked to narrow the gap.

Surging ahead

The top of the Masters' leaderboard was a crowded affair early, but Rose sat alone in first place after this birdie at the par-5 13th hole.

He finished the day with a solid if unspectacular round and left the course with the lead.

That lead held up, though at 7-under, he is just one stroke ahead of Will Zalatoris and Brian Harman, and a host of others are lurking just behind that duo.

How Spieth it is

One of those lurking is Jordan Spieth, who drained a 30-footer on No. 17 to push himself into the mix. He finished the day at 5-under, just two strokes off the lead.

Steady as he goes

One of the most consistent rounds was by Marc Leishman, who had one bogey and five birdies as he climbed into a tie for fourth at 5-under.

Making a move

Justin Thomas made his move up the standings with an impressive stretch at Amen corner.

The run put him into a tie for third at the time. He finished the day at 4-under.

Cameron Smith also made his presence felt with an impressive round that saw him at 7-under at one point. He ended up at 2-under after Day 2.

An eagle has landed

Hideki Matsuyama surged forward by chipping in from just off the green on the par-5 No. 13. He sits three strokes off the pace at 4-under.

Temper, temper

Not everybody had a great day. Si Woo Kim missed a chance to build on what was shaping up to be a wonderful run when he three-putted on No. 14. He took his frustration out on his club.

Left without a putter, Kim used his 3-wood to do the job over the final four holes. He made par on each and remains at 4-under for the tournament.

Almost an ace

Xander Schauffele nearly put it in off the tee at No. 6, settling for an easy birdie as he moved up the leaderboard.

At home in the woods

Bryson DeChambeau found himself among the trees, but that didn't stop him from nailing a birdie on No. 18.

He's out!

The roughest finish of the day had to go to Matthew Wolff, who was disqualified for making a mistake on his scorecard.

Dominant early

Bernd Wiesberger set the tone for the day with what can only be described as birdie fever.
