A's shutting Hahn down for two weeks with forearm strain

Published Jul. 10, 2015 5:32 p.m. ET

The news on Oakland Athletics right-hander Jesse Hahn is in regarding the elbow tightness he's felt over the past couple of days.

Manager Bob Melvin informed the gathered media Friday afternoon at Cleveland's Progressive Field (where the A's will play the Indians this weekend) that Hahn was diagnosed with a forearm strain. Per John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group:

At this point, it's unclear what exactly will come of Hahn's strained forearm, as that could potentially lead to bigger issues down the road - or, it might not. For the time being, as indicated by Hickey's tweet, the organization is 'happy' that Hahn's ailment is not elbow-related. Should Hahn be out for an extended period of time past the two weeks, Chris Bassitt is a reasonable fill-in for his rotation spot.

So far in 2015, Hahn is 6-6 with a 3.35 ERA for Oakland and has had a handful of stellar starts (such as his complete game shutout over the Detroit Tigers in late May).
