ATLANTA -- Versatile infielder Gordon Beckham, an Atlanta native and former University of Georgia standout, has agreed to a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Braves.

Beckham announced the deal on his Twitter feed Wednesday:

The Braves confirmed the agreement, which won't become final until Beckham passes a physical.

Beckham has played third base, shortstop and second base in his seven-season major-league career, which has been spent almost entirely with the Chicago White Sox. The 29-year-old Beckham, a .242 career hitter, hit only .209 with six homers and 20 RBI with Chicago in 2015.

Beckham could compete with Adonis Garcia at third base, with Hector Olivera moving to left field.

Atlanta also allowed left-hander Mike Minor, infielder Pedro Ciriaco and outfielder Eury Perez to become free agents, failing to offer 2016 contracts by the midnight deadline.
