Colorado Rockies Rumors: Jeff Bridich Speaks on Free Agents

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 1:02 p.m. ET

On an interview with MLB Network Radio on Tuesday afternoon, Colorado Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich added his thoughts to some of the rumors that continue to swirl about his team and potential personnel moves that could occur.

With continued rumors swirling about the Rockies being interested in free agents Edwin Encarnacion and Mark Trumbo, Bridich said that the team was “certainly keeping track” of the happenings with the sluggers/first basemen.

It seemed to indicate that the Rockies were indeed not done with the winter dealings, as he had indicated when Ian Desmond was introduced to the Denver media. It was also something he reinforced on Tuesday when he said, “We’re going to continue to be active both on free agents and the trade market.”

Rumors have also begun to once again surface about another potential new home for Colorado All-Star outfielder Charlie Blackmon. This time, it seems the New York Mets are interested in upgrading their outfield and Blackmon could be a target. With Desmond signing with the Rockies and numerous potential first basemen still on the market, including Trumbo and Encarnacion, the possibilities are certainly there for Colorado to make another big splash.

However, Bridich said again on Tuesday the Rockies are not looking to trade Blackmon or Carlos Gonzalez.

While there are a lot of question marks about potential moves and which way the Rockies might be heading, one thing is for certain. Until Trumbo and Encarnacion sign with a team, rumors will continue to surface about the Rockies being a new home for them. There seems to be little that will slow that down, including Bridich’s statements to the contrary.
