Jordan Zimmermann delivers heartfelt farewell to Nationals fans
Having likely thrown his last pitch in a Washington Nationals jersey, starter Jordan Zimmermann is expressing his gratitude to fans of the only major-league team he's played for.
Although there's still an outside chance Zimmermann could be re-signed by the Nationals in free agency this offseason, he knows the odds are slim given the Nats' payroll situation and young arms waiting to make an impact at the major-league level.
After concluding his seventh and likely final season with the Nationals, Zimmermann shared a message with the Nats' fan base, which his agent Mark Pieper posted on Twitter:

Dear Washington D.C.:
It's difficult putting into words the feelings of appreciation I have for the love and support I've felt over the past seven years. Nationals fans treated my family and me like members of their own, never wavering, no matter the circumstances. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
For a kid from a small town in central Wisconsin, stepping on the mound and competing at the Major League level is a dream come true. It's a dream, yet it's also a responsibility that I don't take lightly. The same level of commitment and passion that you fans showed me every game I took the ball is what I placed in every pitch I tossed wearing a Nationals uniform. My only regret is that we were not able to bring a championship to the fans of this great city this season.
Although I may no longer wear a curly W on my head or on my chest, Nationals fans will always be in my heart. Thank you again for everything.
Jordan Zimmermann
In seven seasons with the Nats, Zimmerman posted a 70-50 record with a 3.32 ERA and 903 strikeouts in 1,094 innings pitched. In what appears as though it will be his final season with the team, the 29-year-old righty went 13-10 with a 3.66 ERA and 164 strikeouts in 201 2/3 innings in 2015.
Although Zimmermann sees the writing on the wall for his departure from D.C., his agent wouldn't rule out a return to the Nats, as he told a fan on Twitter that there is "always a chance" Zimmermann could wear the Curly "W" next year.
