Mets may have Wilmer Flores back soon

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Yes, our very own lovable Wilmer Flores may be returning to the Mets soon.

Friday circa 4 p.m., because that’s when the Mets always drop all of their news, we found out that doctors diagnosed Flores with inflammation in his left wrist.

They gave him a cortisone shot to treat this. As someone who is extremely afraid of needles and tends to run away from any scenario where she needs a shot, I just cringed writing that statement. But hey, someone’s gotta give you the news, right?! (JK I know you’ve probably already read this many times by now).

Flores was stunned by the Braves on September 10th, literally. In case you missed that night’s Mets game or for whatever reason haven’t heard about this, here’s a little synopsis for you…

In the eighth inning, following a T.J. Rivera single, Flores, who was on second base after hitting a double, started to charge around third to head for home. Well, Flores slid face-first right into home plate. Sounds not the best, right? Well, it only got worse when his head hit the left knee guard of Braves catcher A.J. Pierzynski, resulting in Flores’ helmet flying off.

Of course, Flores was ruled out. But frustrating turned to scary for him and the Mets when he didn’t get up right away.

This naturally left Flores shaken up, and took a toll on both his head and his shoulders. At first, Flores missed time because of a sore neck. However, the collision injured his wrist as well, which is the reason why he didn’t play in Wednesday’s game.

Luckily, Flores should be returning to action in a couple of days. Phew. We all know that this will be a boost to the line-up. He has been crushing left-handed pitching this year, has been quite consistent, and in the six games before this injury was hitting .381.

It’s no secret that Flores has been a great asset to the team this year, and we definitely want him back ASAP — but of course want him healthy for any playoff run.
