Mets' Montero has setback in rehab appearance

Published Aug. 17, 2015 7:21 p.m. ET

New York Mets right-hander Rafael Montero had a setback during his rehab stint at Class A St. Lucie and could be done for the season.

The surprising development comes one day after Montero pitched three innings for St. Lucie on Sunday, allowing one run on two hits while striking out one batter and walking a pair.

Montero made three appearances for St. Lucie in an 11-day span, giving up two earned runs on six hits over seven innings. He has been on the disabled list since the end of April due to inflammation in his rotator cuff.

Limited to five appearances (one start) with the Mets this season, the 24-year-old Montero posted an 0-1 mark with a 4.50 ERA.
