Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh to throw out first pitch at Detroit Tigers game

All eyes will be on the mound at Comerica Park on Tuesday, for more reasons than one.

Not only will it be the season debut for starter Justin Verlander, but Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh will toe the rubber, as he's slated to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Tigers take on the Pirates in the series opener.

The first-year Michigan coach is an avid baseball fan and has even suited up for a major-league team once before.

Harbaugh visited the Oakland A's during spring training in March and coached first base in an exhibition game against the Angels. He became friends with A's manager Bob Melvin during his tenure as San Francisco 49ers coach.

Harbaugh was hired as the head coach of U-M football in late December.
