Report: A's and Angels discussed potential Josh Reddick trade

With the trade deadline approaching, the Oakland Athletics continue to be involved in speculation and whispers of trade activity - due in part to general manager Billy Beane's reputation to trade anyone at any time and in part because of the club's inability to get out of last place in the AL West.

The latest buzz centers around right fielder Josh Reddick, who expressed discontent recently with being benched against left-handed starters despite a .159/.227/.232 slash line vs. southpaws this season.

On Monday, MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez sent out a series of Tweets intimating that the A's and division rival Los Angeles Angels engaged in trade talks regarding Reddick - though these conversations occurred before general manager Jerry Dipoto stepped down recently.

Though it seems far-fetched to imagine the A's shipping Reddick to the rival Halos for anything less than a bounty of a return, there is a precedent for a deal between the two clubs. Back in 2013, the A's sent minor leaguer Grant Green to Anaheim in exchange for Alberto Callaspo, who spent a season and a half in Oakland.

Even if the Angels and A's don't match up on a Reddick deal (which again seems unlikely), the Angels are still definitely in the market for left-handed outfield help considering their need for a third outfielder to complement Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun.

As for Oakland's perspective, it's unclear if the club is actively entertaining trade proposals for Reddick...so the next couple of weeks ought to be interesting.
