Detroit Tigers right-hander Anibal Sanchez will have his throwing shoulder examined by Dr. James Andrews and likely is finished for the season, FOX Sports Insider Jon Paul Morosi reports.

Sanchez announced after Monday's loss to the Minnesota Twins that he would not make his scheduled start Wednesday.

He hasn't started since Aug. 18, and he was placed on the 15-day DL on Aug. 20 because of a rotator cuff strain.

In 25 starts this season, Sanchez is 10-10 with a 4.99 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. He has posted a sub-4.00 ERA in each of the previous eight seasons and led the AL with a 2.57 ERA in 2013.
