Tigers' Victor Martinez says he has 'no respect' for Pirates players, coaches

Tensions between the Tigers-Pirates game have boiled over into the clubhouse and shots are being fired from both sides.

After getting hit in the ribs by a fastball from Pirates starter Gerrit Cole during Tuesday night's game, Martinez was asked if he thought it was intentional.

"Yeah, everyone knows that," Martinez told WXYT-FM reporter Jeff Riger. "I mean, I have no respect for no one on that team, including Cole and their coaching staff. If they think that Verlander hit Marte with a 1-2 count -- he was battling that at-bat -- if they really think we did it on purpose, they're playing the wrong sport."

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle didn't do much to ease the tension when relayed those comments before Wednesday night's game: "I wasn't aware he was the voice of reason."

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus feels it was done on purpose.
