F1: Rosberg victorious in the Brazilian Grand Prix

Published Nov. 15, 2015 12:30 p.m. ET

Nico Rosberg grabbed his fifth win of the season in the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos.

It was also Rosberg's second consecutive victory in the Brazilian GP.

Rosberg's teammate, Lewis Hamilton, fought hard at the start to get the lead going into the first turn, but it was Rosberg who had the advantage from the pole.

Hamilton, the 2015 Formula One World Champion, went on to finish the race in second after coming up just short of earning his first Brazilian GP victory.

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel finished third, one spot ahead of his teammate Kimi Raikkonen.

With the victory, Rosberg has now locked up second in the world championship point standings, 31 points ahead of Vettel.

Williams driver Valterri Bottas finished fifth, now finding himself fourth in the standings ahead of Raikkonen.

Force India's Nico Hulkenberg finished sixth, collecting points and matching his best finish of the season. Hulkenberg also had the same result in Austria and Japan.

Red Bull Racing driver Daniel Ricciardo made a pit stop early pit stop on lap three to switch from soft to medium tires and create a strategy for the team, but he was only able to claw his way back up to finish 12th.

Felipe Massa was penalized for a tire infringement on the grid before the start of the race, resulting in an exclusion from the results and the loss of his original eighth place finish.

After the first round of pit stops, Hamilton battled back and closed the gap to less than a half second on Rosberg. Hamilton's tires eventually fell off, allowing Rosberg to extend his lead to over two seconds once again.

Marcus Ericsson was hit by Pastor Maldonado in the Senna esses on Lap 35, resulting in a five second penalty for Maldonado after the incident was investigated by race stewards.

Hamilton radioed to his crew on Lap 53, complaining that he damaged the floor of his car, possibly due to the high curbs drivers had to deal with around Interlagos throughout the weekend.

Rosberg led 68 of the 71 laps on his way to victory.

F1's final stop of the season will be the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Nov. 29.
