2023-24 NBA Rookie of the Year odds: Wembanyama becomes even bigger favorite

Updated Mar. 18, 2024 2:31 p.m. ET

And then there were three … kinda.

As we enter the last few weeks of the NBA regular season, all that's left on the betting board is a trio of names to win NBA Rookie of the Year — Victor Wembanyama, Chet Holmgren and Brandon Miller.

However, when you look at the odds, at -5000, Wemby has effectively secured the bag.

The 7-foot-4 San Antonio center's odds to win the coveted trophy have been on the move all year. He opened the season as the favorite at -150 and was second on the oddsboard as recently as Jan. 18.

By the time March rolled around, his odds shrank to -1350 from -650.

Now, the Frenchman is an even heavier favorite at -5000.

Averaging 20.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game as of Monday, Victor is one of the brightest spots in the Spurs' dismal 15-53 season.

Let's take a look at the latest odds for the NBA's Rookie of the Year award:

ODDS TO WIN 2023-24 NBA ROY: *

Victor Wembanyama, Spurs: -5000 (bet $10 to win $10.20 total)
Chet Holmgren, Thunder: +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total)
Brandon Miller, Hornets: +50000 (bet $10 to win $5,010 total)

* odds as of 3/18/2024

Why Victor Wembanyama will be the next face of the NBA after LeBron

Earlier this season, Wembanyama became the first player with 10 blocks and five assists in under 30 minutes played in NBA history.

He also had the first triple-double with blocks since Atlanta's Clint Capela had 13 points, 19 rebounds and 10 blocks against Minnesota on Jan. 22, 2021.

Additionally, Wembanyama is the first rookie with 150 blocks, 150 assists and 50 steals in a season since San Antonio's Tim Duncan in 1997-98.

Behind Wemby, at a very distant second, is Holmgren. His odds over the past several weeks moved to +2000 from +1000.

The 7-foot-1 Holmgren was the second pick in the 2022 NBA Draft but missed last season with a foot injury.

FOX Sports NBA Analyst Ric Bucher lauded the duo of young "bigs" for quickly molding their games to the NBA.

"Chet Holmgren and Victor Wembanyama have turned in more than a few performances this season worthy of All-Star status," Bucher said.
