Detroit Pistons beat the Dallas Mavericks 95-85

The Detroit Pistons defeated the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night to move to 14-13 on the season. The Pistons bounced back after a sluggish game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Both teams started slow to start the game as the Detroit Pistons kept turning the ball over. After a somewhat sloppy first half, the game was tied 43-43 at halftime. The Pistons dominated the boards in this game while the Mavericks took better care of the ball.

This made for an interesting and close game until the Pistons got in sync during the fourth quarter behind their ball movement and good defense. They scored 35 points in the fourth quarter while holding Dallas to only 21. It was good to see the Pistons come out and play with more energy after their sluggish previous game.

Reggie Jackson

PG, Detroit Pistons

BReggie Jackson looked to be getting a bit back into a rhythm for the first time since his return this season. He was shot 50% from the field while scoring 20 points. He also dished out 6 assists and created some big offense in the fourth quarter that helped the Pistons pull away in the fourth. He did struggle on defense at times committing five fouls and while also committing three turnovers.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

SG, Detroit Pistons

C-Kentavious Caldwell-Pope struggled to make an impact in the first half of the game. He had no points, rebounds, or assists in the first half though managed to finish with 11 points on 44% shooting from the field. He tweaked his ankle at the end of the game and hopefully it isn’t serious.

Marcus Morris

SF, Detroit Pistons

C-Marcus Morris was had an average game on Wednesday night with 12 points on 40% shooting. He struggled to keep the ball and turned it over four times. He played 37 minutes and wasn’t as productive as he usually is.

Tobias Harris

PF, Detroit Pistons

C-Tobias Harris was able to create his own offense a few times in this game and ended up scoring 10 points on 50% shooting. He didn’t really provide much else on the court and wasn’t great on defense resulting in a -12 plus/minus.

Andre Drummond

C, Detroit Pistons

BAndre Drummond was a monster on the boards in this game grabbing 17 rebounds in total including 12 in the first quarter. He didn’t get very many touches though on offense with only three shot attempts and four turnovers. The Pistons should have gotten him the ball a bit more on offense though a big reason he had so many rebounds in the first quarter was because the Pistons struggled to make a shot from the field.

Stanley Johnson

SF, Detroit Pistons

C+Stanley Johnson was the first wing of the bench tonight for Stan Van Gundy. He struggled with his shot again though he managed to get to the line a few times. He chipped in seven points and game the Pistons good defense off the bench. He only played 15 minutes but they were solid minutes and should get more moving forward if he can continue to bust out of his slump.

Aaron Baynes

C, Detroit Pistons

BAron Baynes was solid off the bench both offensively and defensively tonight for the Pistons. He grabbed 10 rebounds and pitched in eight points. He was summoned off the bench to finish the game as the Mavericks started to hack Drummond.

Ish Smith

PG, Detroit Pistons

CIsh Smith played 18 minutes and managed to provide a bit of scoring and playmaking for the Pistons. He was able to get in transition a few times and create offense. He only shot two of five from the field but dished out 6 assists.

Jon Leuer

PF, Detroit Pistons

AJon Leuer continued on his great play this season with a fantastic game on Wednesday night. He gave the Pistons offense off the bench scoring 19 points on 89% shooting from the field. He chipped in five rebounds and played great defense. He had the best plus/minues in the game with a great +25.Next: Reggie Jackson's five-game checkup

Stan Van Gundy

Head Coach, Detroit Pistons

B-Stan Van Gundy went only nine deep with his rotation tonight. His decision to give Stanley Johnson minutes over Darrun Hilliard looked to be the right call tonight. He kept Jon Leuer on the court for 31 minutes with both reserves and starters as he was playing great. Van Gundy decided to take out Drummond for the end of the fourth quarter as a result of the Mavericks hacking him. Baynes played well down the stretch and helped the Pistons finish off the game.
