Kings using innovative approach at training camp to play faster
There are no rules during NBA practices. The Golden State Warriors, for instance, got a lot of mileage out of playing music loudly during their free-flowing practices last year. And with the doors closed, teams like the Sacramento Kings can experiment with ways to improve their play on the court.
So the Kings are adopting a practice tactic that many teams around the NBA use. They're utilizing a shorter shot clock to get guys into the habit of operating quickly and efficiently on offense:
One of the primary indicators of offensive success is how early in the shot clock a team gets into its offensive actions. Attacking a defense before its set means good things, and it's an approach that coach George Karl has employed throughout his career.
Where Sacramento might have problems is with its point guards. Darren Collison is a good fit for a more up-tempo approach, but Rajon Rondo has historically favored a more methodical pace with the ball in his hands.
The Kings have their first preseason game on Monday, October 5.
