Marco Belinelli Stars in Charlotte Hornets OT Loss to the New Orleans Pelicans

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Marco Belinelli stepped up off of the bench for the Charlotte Hornets but it wasn’t enough as the team lost in overtime to the Pelicans.

The Charlotte Hornets fell to the New Orleans Pelicans in overtime. Both teams were in the second half of a back to back but being on the road, the Hornets looked dead near the end of the game. They put up a respectable fight though considering that Charlotte was coming off of a hard-fought performance the night before against the Atlanta Hawks. The player grades for this tough loss are as follows.

Player of the Game:

Marco Belinelli

Back-up SG, Charlotte Hornets

A+

Marco had his best game in a Hornets uniform. For most of the game, Marco was unstoppable. Going 7 for 9 from the three-point line Marco seemed like he couldn’t miss. Meanwhile, he also had his season high in rebounds. Marco finished the game with 22 points 10 rebounds, and five assists.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

SF, Charlotte Hornets

A

MKG went back to his usual double-double ways. He posted 10 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.

Marvin Williams

PF, Charlotte Hornets

B-

Marvin had a little bit of trouble shooting in the first half, but he still managed to contribute 13 points. Mr. Reliable rarely disappoints.

Roy HIbbert

C, Charlotte Hornets

C

Roy played less than 20 minutes and only scored four points, but he did so on only six shots. He also chipped in two rebounds and a steal.

Nicolas Batum

SG, Charlotte Hornets

B

Coming off his monster game against Atlanta, Nic was visibly tired in this one. He still had a very good game, though. Batum finished the night with 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two blocks.

Kemba Walker

PG, Charlotte Hornets

A

For the second consecutive night, Kemba did not get the player of the game honor. However, that doesn’t mean that he did not make a heck of a case for it. The captain gave us his usual 25 points and added five assists. And for good measure, he threw in seven rebounds.

Spencer Hawes

Back-up C, Charlotte Hornets

C+

As usual, when Spencer gets time on the court he doesn’t disappoint. He played within himself and gave the team eight points, six rebounds, and four assists.

Frank Kaminsky

Back-up PF, Charlotte Hornets

B

Frank continued his positive sophomore campaign with another good game. I can not help, but feel extremely optimistic about his future. 15 points and five rebounds for Frank the Tank.

Ramon Sessions

Back-up PG, Charlotte Hornets

B

I know that I am usually pretty hard on Ramon, but it is because I am so in love with his game. He ran the team very well allowing Kemba to get plenty of time resting his legs. Sessions delivered six points, seven assists, and three steals.

The Charlotte Hornets will be looking to bounce back in their next game when they return home. They will take on the Memphis Grizzlies for their first meeting of the season.
