Abry Jones could be a sneaky good pickup for the Denver Broncos

The Jacksonville Jaguars have made a habit of taking some of the Denver Broncos’ top free agents. Now, the Broncos could look to snatch Abry Jones…

The Denver Broncos are going to be one of the league’s most active teams this year in free agency, and if we know John Elway like we think we do, they’ll also be one of the most aggressive. One team that has made a habit of poaching some of the best young talent out of Denver is the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jacksonville has a free agent this offseason that might attract the interest of the Denver Broncos, and his name is Abry Jones.

One area that Elway is certain to upgrade this offseason is the defensive line. The loss of Malik Jackson up front proved to be much more detrimental than anyone anticipated, especially when the top option to replace him — Vance Walker — was injured in training camp, missing the entire 2016 season.

With Sylvester Williams set to hit free agency, the Broncos could be looking for some new beef up front defensively in free agency, and Jones would fit the bill. The 6-4, 318 pound Jones has really started to come on in the last couple of seasons with the Jags. In relief of Roy Miller this past season, he started nine games and really showed out.

He graded as one of Pro Football Focus’ top free agent interior defensive linemen, and while he didn’t play every single snap or every down, he is the type of player that can come in and provide scheme and positional versatility. He can hold up at the point of attack as a nose guard, but can also play some defensive end when called upon.

Jones will only be 26 this September, making him a worthwhile long-term investment as well for the Broncos. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia, but made the roster right away as a rookie. He’s blossomed over the last couple of seasons and looks like he’s ready to take on a bigger role.

That could wind up being in Jacksonville, but it wouldn’t shock me to see John Elway swoop in and give Dave Caldwell a taste of his own medicine.
