All NFL teams nominate one player for Walter Payton Man of the Year so Green is competing against 31 others for the award.

Here’s some more information from Denver Broncos vice president of public relations Patrick Smyth.

The only Bronco to ever win the Payton Award was Hall of Fame QB John Elway in 1992.

The award was first given in 1970 and won by Baltimore Colts QB Johnny Unitas. The most recent winner was then-San Francisco receiver Anquan Boldin in 2015.

There have been many great NFL players to have won the award in the past. These include Chicago Bears linebacker Mike Singletary in 1990 and Atlanta Falcons tailback Warrick Dunn in 2004.

On the field Green’s been magnificent, having 53 career catches in 73 targets. This means he catches the ball when it’s thrown to him 73 percent of the time. He also has 2 career scoring receptions in his time with the Broncos.

In any event, Broncos Country benefits from having someone so classy and excellent in their midst.
