Colts make investment in future with latest pickup

Tevin Mitchel won't play for the Indianapolis Colts in 2015, but when the team saw the Washington Redskins had placed the rookie corner on waivers this week, they jumped at the chance to claim him.

According to Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star, the Colts were high on the former Mitchel entering the draft, before the Redskins took him in the sixth round.

Mitchel was waived after suffering a shoulder injury in training camp that will require surgery.

The Colts have a number of core offensive players in line for huge extensions, including star quarterback Andrew Luck, left tackle Anthony Castonzo and wide receiver T.Y. Hilton, among others.  With that in mind, the team is in the market for young defensive players with upside that won't cost much against the cap over the next few seasons. Mitchel falls in that category even though he won't play this season.

Mitchel started 29 games at the University of Arkansas, making 157 tackles, with four interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
