Denver Broncos: Miami TE David Njoku could be Draft target

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 11:13 p.m. ET

The Denver Broncos are in desperate need of help offensively. They have needs on the offensive line, but could look at Miami TE David Njoku as well…

The Denver Broncos will be looking for any and every way to upgrade their offense this offseason, and that includes the tight end position, currently occupied by A.J. Derby, Jeff Heuerman, Virgil Green, and Henry Krieger-Coble (who spent much of the season on injured reserve).

One player that could wind up being of interest to the Broncos is Miami Hurricanes sophomore tight end David Njoku, a player who is breaking out in 2016 and looks like a dynamic pass catching tight end.

He has declared his intent to enter the 2017 NFL Draft, and will be eligible to select for all NFL teams at the end of April. When you watch him play, it’s easy to see why he wanted to make the leap to the NFL.

Athletically, Njoku is a freak. Guys that are 6-4/6-5 and 245 pounds shouldn’t be able to run, jump, and make moves like he can in the open field. He’s still young, and needs plenty of work as a run blocker, but there’s no question that this is one of the best threats as a receiver in this draft form the tight end position.

The Broncos certainly have the bodies at tight end right now, but do they have the difference maker they need? A.J. Derby has certainly shown flashes, as has Jeff Heuerman, but Virgil Green hasn’t become that player so many felt he could be when Julius Thomas left. All three players are decent blockers or better, but do the Broncos have this type of dynamic receiver?

The price to get Njoku could very well end up being a first round pick. Yes, he is raw, but a player like him is rare, and even in a deep class of tight ends, he stands out quite a bit.

He could be a fit in Denver.
