Dolphins' Jarvis Landry named AFC special teams player of the week

Published Sep. 16, 2015 11:03 a.m. ET

The Miami Dolphins nearly left Washington with a loss to the Redskins on Sunday, but wide receiver Jarvis Landry had other plans. He took a 69-yard punt return to the house in what turned out to be the game winner.

In returning the punt for a touchdown, Landry earned himself AFC special teams player of the week honors for Week 1.

He's the first Dolphins player to win the award since 2012 when stud defensive lineman Olivier Vernon was given the honor.

In addition to returning the game-winning punt, Landry caught eight passes for 53 yards as he continues to prove to be one of the best young slot receivers in the game. Add in his punt return ability and he's an up-and-coming star.
