Fantasy Football Start or Sit Week 8: RB Bilal Powell

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Heading into Week 8 Fantasy Football action, owners are advised to not risk a spot on running back Bilal Powell.

As the New York Jets prepare to face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, this could be a trap game. The Jets have been playing some abysmal football all season long, hence their 2-5 start. The Browns, on the other hand, are 0-7 but do play with heart and passion. Fantasy football owners are presented with the task of wondering if it’s worth starting running back Bilal Powell this week.

The answer is a definitive no in the grand scheme of things. Fantasy owners would be advised to sit Powell this week. If possible, go with his partner in crime, running back Matt Forte instead. Forte should have a much better fantasy output this week compared to Powell. Unfortunately for him, he is having a lackluster season with the Jets.

So far this season, Powell has only totaled 137 rushing yards, 24 attempts, and has yet to score a touchdown this season with the Jets. It’s a shame really since Powell had high hopes this season but unfortunately, hasn’t resembled anything we saw from last season in 2016.

It’s safe to say that Powell has regressed tremendously this year. Forte is coming off a big game last week and well, will most likely get the majority of reps on Sunday against the Browns. Make no mistake about it, fantasy owners shouldn’t waste a spot this week on Powell.

It’s best to either head in a different direction or even drop Powell completely. The overall offense of the Jets has been abysmal as of late and it won’t be magically fixed anytime soon. The Jets are a disaster this year as it’s looking more and more like a lost season.

Due to this, Powell is a safe sit in Week 8 since he hasn’t been much of an impact player at all. Even against the Browns, it’s just not worth a spot as owners prepare for November and beyond in their respective fantasy leagues.
