Injury Report: Oakland Raiders at San Diego Chargers

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 1:49 p.m. ET

An updated injury report for the Oakland Raiders as well as the San Diego Chargers ahead of their week 15 matchup.

In Week 15, the Oakland Raiders head down south to their home-away-from-home to take on the San Diego Chargers.

Since playing last Thursday night, the Raiders had a few extra days to heal up and get ready for the stretch run in the AFC West division race. Although the Raiders did get extra rest, they are still banged up at a few positions.

Raiders Injury Report:

Shilique Calhoun – Did not participate (knee)

Derek Carr – Full (finger)

Amari Cooper – Limited (shoulder)

Michael Crabtree – Limited (finger)

Karl Joseph – Did not participate (toe)

Darius Latham – Limited (ankle)

Stacy McGee – Did not participate (ankle)

Kelechi Osemele – Limited (knee)

Perry Riley Jr – Limited (hamstring)

Malcolm Smith – Limited (hamstring)

It looks like the Raiders will be without Karl Joseph, Stacy McGee and Shilique Calhoun for another week, which could hinder the defense a bit. Something that could give the Raiders defense a boost here would be that the defensive line could get back Darius Latham, who has been a great rotational defensive lineman.

Some positives to look at here are that none of the offensive skill position players (Carr, Cooper, Crabtree) are expected to miss Sunday’s game, although Derek Carr’s pinky is something that we should all be keeping an eye on. Osemele was good to go against KC last week before he had to be taken to the hospital for kidney stones. He tweeted out a couple days later that he was fine and could not wait to get back on the field.

The one big elephant in the room out of this entire injury report is Mario Edwards Jr. Edwards has been cleared to practice with the team but has not been activated on the active roster as of yet. If Edwards were to come back this regular season, I would expect him to be on a snap count up until the playoffs, but his addition could be huge if we see the 2015 version of Edwards.

Chargers Injury Report:

Jeremy Butler – Limited (ankle)

Orlando Franklin – Full (rib)

Melvin Gordon – Did not participate (hip, knee)

Craig Mager – Did not participate (shoulder)

Joey Bosa – Full (neck)

Jatavis Brown – Full (knee)

Dwight Lowery – Full (hand)

Dexter McCoil – Full (ankle)

Tyrell Williams – Full (shoulder)

The Chargers will be without bell-cow running back Melvin Gordon. Gordon has had a breakout sophomore season up to this point but injured his hip when diving for a loose ball against the Panthers last week. Gordon was the 4th leading rusher in the NFL before getting hurt. The Raiders potentially caught a huge break here considering Gordon had a very solid performance the last time these two teams played.

A positive for the Chargers is that they were able to practice starting guard Orlando Franklin after it looked like he was going to be doubtful to practice leading up to week 15. Another positive for the Chargers is that they have a full participant in Joey Bosa who had a coming out party in his first career game against the Silver and Black in which he recorded 2 sacks-which were the most by any single defender against the Raiders offensive line.
