Kyle Long: 'It's not any fun' playing against brother Chris Long
Chicago Bears right tackle Kyle Long probably won't face his brother this weekend -- St. Louis Rams defensive end Chris Long is expected to miss another game with a knee injury -- but these two have gone head-to-head before. Apparently, it's not as enjoyable an experience as one might think.
"Nobody wants to have any family member dealing with injury or anything, but I wouldn’t wish playing against your sibling on anybody," Kyle Long said, per ESPN's Jeff Dickerson. "It’s not any fun."
The last time the Long brothers met on an NFL field, Kyle lost his cool and was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after spurring a post-whistle skirmish. This was in Week 12 of the 2013 season, as the Bears fell to the Rams by a score of 42-21.
"I was fired up as a rookie on the road," Kyle Long said, via ESPN. "I bought in to the whole thing that week about playing against my brother and my brother's team. I think it cost me. In the end I think it was $32,000 [fine], I’m not sure, something around there. You know it’s a football game. There’s no reason to make it bigger than that. It’s a big football game for both of us. We have to go on the road and go against one of the toughest defenses in the NFL. That’s a challenge for us."
Big brother isn't supposed to appear in this game, so Kyle should be more composed in his second trip to St. Louis. He is two years older now, and the Pro Bowl offensive lineman has a responsibility to act as one of the team's leaders.
