Luck's limited practice raises injury questions

Published Sep. 30, 2015 1:50 p.m. ET

Indianapolis Colts star quarterback Andrew Luck, who normally takes almost all of the first-team reps in practice, sat out much of the portion open to the media on Wednesday with a sore shoulder.

Per Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star, backup Matt Hasselbeck took a number of snaps, with Alex Tanney, who the team signed to the practice squad Tuesday, also seeing work.

While Luck had never appeared on an NFL injury report since entering the league in 2012, speculation has surfaced the three-time Pro Bowler was playing hurt in the Colts' 35-33 win over the Titans last Sunday.

When asked by reporters on Monday if he was indeed injured, Luck downplayed the idea.

"Football is a physical game, right, we all know that," Luck said. "You wake up Monday morning or Sunday night after the game on the plane ride home, you feel bumps and bruises. Some games are less physical than others, and that's sort of the nature of it. This past one certainly was physical. There are a bunch of guys I'm sure in both training rooms recovering from stuff, but for me it's sort of business as usual. Go out there, get over those bumps and bruises, those sort of nicks and get out there and play."

After practice, Luck said he doesn't expect to miss any playing time.

"I fully expect to play Sunday against Jacksonville," Luck said.

The Colts are preparing for a stretch of two games in five days. Indianapolis hosts the Jaguars on Sunday, followed by a Thursday-night matchup on the road against the Houston.
