Not only is Peyton Manning out against the Chicago Bears but so is one of his top targets, Emmanuel Sanders.
Denver's speedy receiver was limited in practice this week with a sprained left ankle, especially because the Broncos had to move practice indoors for two days when a blizzard soaked their outdoor fields. He had to shut it down early Friday when the Broncos finally got to practice in the cold and wind.
Manning stayed behind in Denver to continue getting treatment on a trio of injuries - foot, ribs, shoulder - that prompted coach Gary Kubiak to turn to longtime backup Brock Osweiler, who's making his first NFL start on his 25th birthday.
Also staying behind in Denver to rehab with Manning is outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware (back), whose absence has been sorely felt on Denver's No. 1-ranked defense, which hasn't had a takeaway in three games.
In Philadelphia, Mark Sanchez is making his first start of 2015 because Sam Bradford has a concussion and injured left shoulder.
