Mike Pettine: 'Reasonable chance' Terrelle Pryor plays Sunday

In what has been a rollercoaster of a season for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, it looks as though he could finally see his first regular season game action on Sunday, when the Browns host the San Francisco 49ers.

“There is a reasonable chance that he will be up this week,” head coach Mike Pettine said on Wednesday.

Having already been waived and then re-signed by the Browns, the Ohio State product could finally suit up for Cleveland, and maybe even see some playing time as well. Pryor has said that he stayed in shape and matured while away from the field after being let go on September 10. Pettine agreed that Pryor looks good physically and that he has retained his understanding of the offense following his previous stint in Cleveland just a couple months ago.

“To his credit, he came in here in very good shape, and the knowledge that he gained of our system quickly came back to him,” Pettine said of Pryor.

With Travis Benjamin (shoulder), Brian Hartline (hip), Taylor Gabriel (concussion), Marlon Moore (ribs), and Andrew Hawkins (concussion) all appearing on the Browns injury report on Wednesday, Pryor, Darius Jennings, and Dwayne Bowe (the $9 million man!) are currently the only healthy Cleveland wideouts.

Manziel noted he has faith in whatever wide receivers take the field with him. “I have faith in those guys that are in there with us. TP (WR Terrelle Pryor) is obviously a new addition.” And, he later added “I know whoever is in there is going to go and fight extremely hard. I don’t have any doubts about those guys coming in and playing hard.”

At 6-foot-4, Pryor will by far be the tallest receiver on the active roster, with the next tallest being 6-foot-2 Brian Hartline. This could make Pryor an intriguing red zone target for quarterback Johnny Manziel.

With so many injuries and so much potential in Pryor, Pettine sounded optimistic that the Ohio State product would be on the field before long.

“Hopefully we can get him out there sooner than later.”
