Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson impresses early in camp

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson has heard plenty of criticism through his first two seasons. His NFL production has been so far from his potential that even head coach Mike Zimmer has joined the chorus.

But after just a few days in training camp, Patterson is finally drawing some reviews to justify his first-round draft status.

"So far he's done good," Zimmer said, via Brian Murphy of the Pioneer Press. "These (three) days he's been impressive. Today's a new day. Hopefully today is just as good as yesterday and yesterday was as good as the day before."

Zimmer's definitely not sold on his third-year receiver, though. He left the door open for Patterson's early success to be nothing more than a fluke.

"I don't know that he's turned a corner yet, but he's definitely rounding one," Zimmer told the Pioneer Press.

Despite his success as an All-Pro level of success as a kick returner, Patterson is trending in the wrong direction as a receiver. His reception (45 to 33), yardage (469 to 384) and touchdown (4 to 1) figures all fell after his rookie season.

If he can finally nail down a starting job in 2015, Patterson may be able to turn things around before it's too late.
