Monday Night Football top plays: Chargers, Herbert hand Raiders first loss

The Las Vegas Raiders are undefeated no more.

It was an AFC West showdown to wrap up Week 4 on Monday at SoFi Stadium, and Justin Herbert and the Chargers handed Derek Carr and the Raiders their first loss of the season by a score of 28-14.

The Chargers and the Raiders are each 3-1 on the season. With the win Monday, L.A. improved to 5-0 in its past five divisional games and Herbert to 7-1 in his past eight starts.

The Arizona Cardinals are the only NFL team with a perfect record through four games.

FIRST QUARTER

After a weather delay, things got underway in L.A., and the Chargers wasted no time moving the sticks.

They were the first to strike when Herbert connected with tight end Donald Parham in the back of the end zone for six.

The Chargers attempted to fool the Raiders when lining up in punt formation at the end of the first. Instead of kicking the ball away, Ty Long tossed it to receiver Tevaughn Campbell in hopes of picking up a first down, but Hunter Renfrow had other ideas.

SECOND QUARTER

Los Angeles continued its early dominance and extended its lead when Herbert fired another laser into the end zone, this time to Jared Cook.

The Chargers stayed hot to close out the first half, as Austin Ekeler snagged another score, and L.A. took a commanding 21-0 lead into the break.

In the first half, Herbert went 20-for-25 for 175 yards and three TDs. On the other side, the Raiders struggled, putting up 51 yards of total offense through two quarters.

THIRD QUARTER

The Raiders finally got on the board in the second half, thanks to a snag from Renfrow.

With momentum on their side, the Raiders continued to make big plays, including this TD grab from Darren Waller to make it a one-score game.

FOURTH QUARTER

The Raiders kept rolling in the final frame. Carr sent this bomb to Henry Ruggs for a 51-yard gain — the longest play allowed by the Chargers' defense so far this season.

Midway through the fourth, Ekeler found the end zone for a second time to extend the Chargers' lead to 28-14.

The Raiders tried to stage a comeback late in the frame, but the early deficit proved too big for them to overcome.
