No path to the draft: Undrafted free agents score all 6 Seahawks' TDs
So much for building through the draft.
The Seattle Seahawks moved into the sixth and final playoff spot in the NFC with their best offensive output of the season in Sunday's 39-30 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In a statistical oddity, the Seahawks put up six touchdowns in the game - and all were scored by undrafted free agents. Wide receiver Doug Baldwin led the way, setting career highs with three scoring passes and 145 yards on six catches, while fellow wideout Jermaine Kearse had two TD receptions.
“It was cool," Kearse told the team's official website. "It was great to see our guys playing well and balling like that. Me and Doug are real competitive guys. He had some nagging injuries coming in from last week and he just stayed on it. ... That just shows a testament of his character and his hunger to be great. He showed out today.”
Rookie running back Thomas Rawls, continuing to thrive while subbing for the injured Marshawn Lynch, also found the end zone while rushing for 81 yards on 21 carries. The day, though, belonged to Baldwin, who became the first Seattle receiver with three touchdown catches since Joey Galloway in 1997.
Baldwin, who helped put the game away with scoring strikes of 30 and 80 yards in the fourth quarter, said his last three-touchdown game came in "Little League, probably. And I wasn’t a receiver. I was a running back, so I had a lot more opportunities.”
Too small. Too slow. Too pedestrian. Two & Three Touchdowns.. pic.twitter.com/Jg1ZTMj8XL
