Packers' top pass rusher Nick Perry ruled out Sunday due to hand injury

The Green Bay Packers can use all the help they can get at this point, and injuries like this won’t do them any favors. Their top pass rusher, linebacker Nick Perry, has been ruled out this week against the Seahawks due to a hand injury. Head coach Mike McCarthy announced the news before practice Wednesday.

Perry, who has a team-high eight sacks this season, tried to play last week with a club on his hand but was unable to finish the game. The Packers hope he can play at some point this season, but his status will be reevaluated Monday.

“I feel terrible for Nick. He’s having a great season, clearly his best season,” McCarthy said. “He’s had a setback.

“I don’t know the specifics of how long it’s going to be. Talking to Nick, he wants to go. That’s why we’re going to look at it Monday and see where it is.”

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Perry underwent surgery to repair several broken fingers, which is why he’ll be held out of Sunday’s game.

To make matters worse, Clay Matthews will not practice Wednesday or Thursday either, putting his status in question, too. He has a chance to play, according to McCarthy, as long as he doesn’t suffer any setbacks with his lingering shoulder injury.
