Run it back

The Bears punted on their second possession of the game, and Ihmir Smith-Marsette ran the punt back 79 yards for a Panthers touchdown, evading three tackle attempts in the process. Cairo Santos made a 54-yard field goal on the ensuing possession for Chicago.

Big play sets up FG

On the second play of the drive after the Santos field goal, Young hit wide receiver Mike Strachan for a 45-yard completion, getting Carolina to the Chicago 26-yard line. Eddy Pineiro later made a 33-yard field goal.

Off the field

Early in the second quarter, defensive lineman Justin Jones came up with a third-down sack of Young at the Panthers' 3-yard line, getting the Bears off the field.

Moving the chains

Faced with a fourth-and-4 at the Carolina 36-yard line, Chicago chose to go for it, and Bagent hit Tyler Scott for a 15-yard pickup, as the wide receiver made a terrific catch in traffic. Four plays later, Santos hit a 36-yard field goal. Chicago trailed 10-6.

3 before half

Chicago got into field goal position before halftime after starting a drive at its 9-yard line with 1:12 remaining in the second quarter. Late in the drive, Bagent hit tight end Cole Kmet for a 13-yard completion on third down, getting the Bears inside the Panthers' 30-yard line, as shown below. Two plays later, Santos connected on a 39-yard field goal, his third field goal of the game.

HALFTIME: Panthers 10, Bears 9

Chicago out-gained Carolina 205-97 in total yards and maintained possession for the bulk of the first half but trailed at halftime. Smith-Marsette's 79-yard punt return to the house was the difference in the first half for the Panthers.

Lead change

Carolina and Chicago each went three-and-out to open the second half. Then Carolina went three-and-out again, but Chicago took advantage of a short field on its ensuing drive, which started at the Carolina 38-yard line. On the ninth play of the drive, D'Onta Foreman powered in a 4-yard rushing touchdown, giving the Bears their first lead of the game.

Pineiro misses LONG FG

Early in the fourth quarter, Pineiro made a 39-yard field goal for Carolina. That said, he was unable to connect on a 59-yard field goal with 1:36 remaining in the fourth quarter.

That's game!

On third-and-7, Bagent hit wide receiver Darnell Mooney for a first down. The Bears then took a knee to end the game.
