Report: Texans OT Duane Brown unlikely to play Sunday

Published Sep. 18, 2015 12:00 a.m. ET

Ryan Mallett may be without perhaps his most important offensive lineman when he make his debut as Houston's starting quarterback in the Texans' Week 2 matchup against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

According the the Houston Chronicle, Texans Pro Bowl left tackle Duane Brown is unlikely to play against the Panthers due to a thumb injury.

Brown injured his thumb during the preseason, but was able to play Week 1 against Kansas City.

If Brown doesn't play Sunday, the Texans could start Chris Clark at left tackle or move right tackle Derek Newton over to the left side. Clark was acquired in a trade with the Denver Broncos late in the preseason.
