Robert Griffin III has finally learned to slide after 'mistakes in the past'

Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III had himself a terrific outing Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons, completing 6 of 8 passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns with a near-perfect passer rating of 154.2.

In addition to making plays with his arm, he used his legs to make the Falcons pay when underestimating his speed. And when Griffin did break one loose – he had 36 yards on three carries – he showed off a skill he previously lacked: the willingness to slide.

Griffin got down before defenders could get a shot on him. On another play, he not only protected his body, but he also drew a penalty after covering up a botched snap, which he fell on and drew a facemask call in the process. The old RGIII might have tried to pick up the ball and run with it.

Griffin talked about how much he’s worked on getting down before getting hit this offseason.

Head coach Hue Jackson, who’s undoubtedly been one of the coaches driving the point home with RG3, applauded him for sliding and avoiding contact.

Griffin has performed extremely well since being named the Browns’ starting quarterback, proving that Jackson made the correct choice over Josh McCown. If he can keep up this type of play in the regular season, the Browns may have something going.
