It has been just over a year since the Minnesota Vikings drafted former Louisville star Teddy Bridgewater with the 32nd overall pick in the NFL Draft, and the team is already extremely excited about its investment.
Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that the Vikings have been “raving” about Bridgewater during training camp this summer. According to Glazer, Bridgewater’s coaches and teammates all think he “gets it.”
Bridgewater had some growing pains during his rookie season last year, but he played well all things considered. He completed 64.4 percent of his passes and threw 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 13 games. We know how difficult it is to start as a rookie in the NFL, so a passer rating of 85.2 is nothing to scoff at.
The Vikings believe they can make the playoffs this season, and their handling of the Adrian Peterson situation is proof of that. If the team wasn’t high on Bridgewater, its brass would have been content to trade Peterson and start rebuilding rather than give him more guaranteed money.
Bridgewater was the third quarterback taken in the 2014 NFL Draft, and the Vikings clearly feel they got the best value. Heck, even a player from one of the other teams that took a quarterback wishes his team took Bridgewater. We could be in for a big sophomore leap.
