Vikings' Zimmer pins Hill interception on Cordarrelle Patterson

Midway through the second quarter of the Minnesota Vikings preseason win over the Oakland Raiders on Saturday evening, Vikings backup quarterback Shaun Hill took a shot deep down the right sideline for wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson.

The only problem: Patterson was nowhere to be found, and the ball was intercepted by Oakland's Jonathan Dowling.

When asked if the turnover was the result of Patterson running the wrong route, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer hinted that the third-year pro was likely to blame, according to Master Tesfatsion of the Star-Tribune.

Patterson, 24, finished the game with just two catches for eight yards. He has failed to stand out again this summer, after two disappointing seasons on offense.

A former first-round pick (2013, No. 29 overall), Patterson must come along quickly if he wants to avoid a draft-bust label and remain a part of Teddy Bridgewater's pass-catching arsenal for the foreseeable future.
