Von Miller Calls Trent Williams The Toughest Offensive Tackle He Has Faced

Trent Williams got some high praise from one of the best pass rushers in the league recently. Von Miller said in an article on The Players Tribune that Williams was the toughest tackle he has faced.

Trent Williams is widely considered to be one of the best offensive tackles in the league. Many media pundits and personnel managers continuously praise the Washington Redskins lineman, but Williams got some unconventional praise on Wednesday. In an article with The Players Tribune, Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller referred to Williams as the toughest tackle he has ever faced.

The battle at the line of scrimmage is like a 12-round boxing fight. He’s going to get some punches in, and I’m going to get some punches in. What makes a great offensive lineman is the ability to take a shot on the chin and get right back up and not be rattled. If Trent gets beat, he knows it’s part of the game. He doesn’t get passive — he’s right back on your ass the next play. His mind-set is like, “You beat me? Alright, you got lucky on that play. Let’s go.” That’s the confidence you need to be great over four quarters. He’s the toughest guy on the field every single play.

Miller is arguably the best pure pass rusher in the league, and could be considered the best player at his position in the last decade. The former No. 2 overall pick has amassed 38.5 sacks over the past three regular season and was the MVP of Super Bowl 50. In the 2016 postseason alone, he totaled five sacks in just three games. He has been a major threat to opposing offensive tackles, and needless to say, that makes his praise of Williams all the more meaningful.

Williams returned to the Redskins last week after serving a four game suspension following the team’s bye week. The pass blocking for Kirk Cousins improved on the edges, as the banged up Ty Nsekhe no longer had to man the left tackle position. Williams is definitely among the league’s best at his position, so the praise is deserved. Still, Williams is looking for his first Super Bowl ring, and he will not be able to get that unless the Redskins can make the playoffs. He will need to continue playing at a high level to help make that a reality.
