Avalanche's awful season gets summed up with one hilariously terrible play

The Colorado Avalanche stink.

STINK.

S-T-I-N-K.

That has been evident for quite some time, as they've been cellar dwellers for nearly this entire NHL season. But their season — heck, their entire franchise history — hit a low point with one truly mesmerizingly terrible play on Saturday night.

With the Avs already down 5-0 to the Jets in the second period, Colorado forward Blake Comeau got a clean breakaway opportunity and a great chance to finally get his team on the board. But Comeau — an NHL veteran with more than 600 games and 100 goals under his belt — made one of the most inexplicable decisions you'll ever see on a sheet of ice.

He passed.

Seriously, with a clear scoring chance in front of him, he tried to pass the puck to a teammate trailing behind him. What's worse — he failed.

Comeau also failed to realize that Winnipeg winger Patrik Laine was trailing behind him, got a stick on the pass and broke up the rush and carried the puck the other way. The breakaway ended without a shot on net.

While I understand that the Avs are in full tank mode, I'm not sure they need to try this hard.
