Brayden Schenn excited brother traded to 'contending team'

Forward Brayden Schenn was happy for his older brother, Luke, after the Philadelphia Flyers traded the defenseman and veteran Vincent Lecavalier to the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday.

Brayden Schenn put his foot in his mouth, however, when he inadvertently took a shot at his current team while complimenting his former one.

Via BroadStreetHockey:

"Luke's going to L.A. and it's the style of hockey, you know, big bodies over there. Play pretty physical and L.A.'s a good team. ... For him to get a chance to be on a contending team playing probably a pretty valuable role, it's going to be huge for both of them and I'm excited for them."

Yes, the Kings (25-12-2) more than qualify as a "contending team" as they lead the Pacific Division by a comfortable margin. Schenn's reference also suggests that the Flyers (16-15-7) are not contenders - for the record, they are tied with the Carolina Hurricanes for sixth place in the Metropolitan Division entering play on Thursday.

Philadelphia, which acquired Jordan Weal and a third-round pick in the deal, returns to the ice on Thursday when it visits the Minnesota Wild.
