Devils' Blandisi on first career NHL goal: 'It's a dream come true'

Like all rookies, New Jersey Devils forward Joseph Blandisi anxiously awaited scoring his first career NHL goal.

Blandisi got that and then some on Thursday as he opened the scoring and added two assists to highlight the Devils' five-goal onslaught in the first period. Staked to a sizable lead, New Jersey (24-19-5) cruised to its third straight victory with a 6-3 triumph over the visiting Ottawa Senators.

Via NHL.com:

"It's a dream come true. It's been a long time coming, but I've worked pretty hard and I've been generating a lot of chances. So I just tried to stick with it the best I could, and finally the work paid off."

Playing in his ninth career NHL game, Blandisi cut across the slot and deflected defenseman David Schlemko's drive to open the scoring at 6:53 of the first period. The 21-year-old Ontario native also set up tallies by Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac as the Devils made this contest a laugher.

Signed as a free agent by New Jersey on Jan. 14, 2015, Blandisi has one goal and five assists on the season.

He'll look to continue his new-found hot streak when New Jersey opens a two-game road trip against the Winnipeg Jets (21-23-3) on Saturday.
