The New Jersey Devils placed veteran forward Dainius Zubrus on unconditional waivers Wednesday with the purpose of terminating his contract.

The 37-year-old Zubrus has spent the last eight seasons with New Jersey, but was slated to make $3.1 million in 2015-16 in the final campaign of a three-year, $9.3 million deal.

Zubrus endured a difficult 2014-15 season, collecting just four goals and six assists in 74 games while finishing with a minus-9 rating. The 6-foot-5, 225-pound forward had 87 tallies and set up 137 more during his time with the Devils.

Zubrus recorded 225 goals and 359 assists in 1,243 games with the Philadelphia Flyers, Montreal Canadiens, Washington Capitals, Buffalo Sabres and New Jersey.
