As per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, Edmonton Oilers defenceman Brandon Davidson may find himself packing his bags come Feb. 28.

Teams are reportedly inquiring and reaching out about the 25-year-old defender, who has become of the Oilers key blueliners.

After overcoming testicular cancer, Davidson came to prominence and earned a spot on the opening night roster. Also, he is a versatile blueliner who can play the right or left side. Overall, Davidson has been a force during his time with the Oilers.

Not only that, he plays a smart defensive game and can make big hits and block shots. The only worry with him is when it comes to injuries; repetitive ailments have led him to only play 20 games this season.

The reason Edmonton would move him is because of the expansion draft. The team has to protect a multitude of players and given Davidson’s injuries, as well as the rise of Matt Benning, he is not completely necessary to protect. In fact, the team would likely protect Patrick Maroon before him.

Possible Deals

The Oilers need a proven goal-scorer on the right wing, but also need a top-four, puck-moving defender to help ignite the power-play. Not to mention, they may be in the market for a trusted backup. With that in mind, the Oilers must look for that in return.

Davidson has plenty of trade value. He is up-and-coming and still young, so he is only destined to get better.

Edmonton could look into renting Shattenkirk, especially because playoffs aren’t out of the question. They could acquire him for insurance and if he chooses to re-sign, the Oilers could give the Blues a conditional pick.

Either way, Davidson packs a lot of value, so seeing the Oilers ship him out would warrant a big return.
