Flames, Byron avoid arbitration, agree to one-year deal

Calgary Flames center Paul Byron signed a one-year contract on Sunday.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported the deal to be worth $900,000. Byron was scheduled to have an arbitration hearing on Thursday.

Byron collected six goals and 13 assists in 57 games last season for the Flames, who also signed forwards Josh Jooris, Lance Bouma and Turner Elson to deals last week.

The 26-year-old Byron is expected to be ready for the start of training camp after undergoing surgery to repair a sports hernia in May and an operation on his wrist the following month, according to the Calgary Sun.

Acquired from Buffalo in 2011, Byron has recorded 17 goals and 31 assists in 138 career games
