Flames' Gaudreau isn't fearful of sophomore slump

Calgary Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau is aware of the dreaded sophomore slump, even if he didn't experience such a letdown at Boston College.

"I didn't have one at school, so hopefully I don't have one here, but you obviously see players fall into that category - hopefully, it's not me, you know,” Gaudreau told the Calgary Herald. "Obviously, it all comes down to the way I play. If I have a bad season, it's on me.

"For me, it's just continuing my success from last year, getting better at the little things that I wasn't so great at last year."

Gaudreau excelled at many facets of his game en route to being named a finalist for the Calder Trophy, which was won by Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad. The 5-foot-9, 150-pound Gaudreau used his superior skating ability and nifty moves to record 64 points (24 goals, 40 assists), tying him with Mark Stone of the Ottawa Senators for the most among rookies during the 2014-15 season.

Gaudreau finished the campaign strong by scoring three goals and setting up three others in the final five games to send the Flames back to the playoffs for the first time since 2008-09.

The 2014 Hobey Baker Award winner continued his torrid play by collecting four goals and five assists as Calgary advanced to the second round of the playoffs before being eliminated by the Anaheim Ducks.
