Flames GM Treliving wants team to keep heat on

The Calgary Flames qualified for the playoffs for the first time in six seasons after a sterling effort in 2014-15.

While the 10-win, 20-point improvement from the previous season was appreciated, Flames general manager Brad Treliving isn't interested in his team resting on its laurels.

"It was nice what we accomplished last year," Treliving told the team's website of the 45-30-7 mark. "We prefer to look through the windshield and not the rearview mirror. What's in front of us is a great challenge, but I think our guys embraced it in making sure they're prepared for that."

Treliving wants both the young as well as experienced players to continue to take steps forward for Calgary, which advanced to the second round of the playoffs before being ousted by the Anaheim Ducks. The Flames' series victory versus Vancouver in the first round was their first since 2004.

Calgary was active during the summer, acquiring defenseman Dougie Hamilton from the Boston Bruins to join an already solid blue line with captain Mark Giordano, Kris Russell, Dennis Wideman and T.J. Brodie. The team also signed forward Michael Frolik to a contract as well.
