Flyers' Neuvirth keeps game simple while shutouts add up

Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Michal Neuvirth has a league-leading three shutouts already this season after recording just seven in his previous seven campaigns.

Neuvirth collected his third blanking of the season by making 28 saves in Philadelphia's 3-0 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday. The triumph snapped a six-game winless skid (0-4-2) for the Flyers (5-6-3).

Neuvirth has been downright dominant in his last six starts, stopping 195-of-203 shots for a whopping .961 save percentage. The 27-year-old owns a .945 save percentage on the season, tying him with Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers and Jake Allen of the St. Louis Blues for top honors in the league.

"I'm just going day by day and working hard every day," Neuvirth told the team's website. "I feel good out there and I’m just focusing on myself, and I don’t worry about the other things."

Signed to a two-year, $3.25 million deal on July 1, Neuvirth owns a 3-2-1 mark with a 1.81 goals-against average this season. He joined Jeff Hackett (2003-04) as the only other Philadelphia goaltender to record two shutouts in his first two starts with the team after making 31 saves in a 1-0 win over Florida on Oct. 12 and stopping 30 shots in a 3-0 triumph over Chicago two nights later.

Coach Dave Hakstol has yet to announce his starting goaltender for Tuesday's home tilt versus the Colorado Avalanche (4-9-1).
