Flyers' Simmonds doesn't want 'repeat of last year'

Philadelphia Flyers right wing Wayne Simmonds is quick to put last season's disastrous finish in his rear-view mirror.

Although Simmonds recorded a team-leading 28 goals, the Flyers (33-31-18) fell out of favor and missed the playoffs following a sixth-place finish in the Metropolitan Division.

"I work on being someone who can provide leadership, to do whatever I can, on and off the ice, to support my teammates," the 6-foot-2 Simmonds told Yahoo! Sports. "The bottom line is that we all work together so we don’t have a repeat of last year."

Change has been the operative word in Philadelphia, which saw Craig Berube sent packing in favor of former North Dakota coach Dave Hakstol.

Although the club faltered, Simmonds was on his way to a career year before fracturing his left leg after stepping in front of shot. The 27-year-old fell one tally shy of his career high of 29, which was set in 2013-14 with the Flyers.

Simmonds has collected 139 goals, 145 assists and 632 penalty minutes in 524 career contests with the Los Angeles Kings and Flyers.
