Flyers' Simmonds: 'There's nothing wrong with the power play'

The Philadelphia Flyers have been one of the league's better teams on the power play over the last few seasons.

In the early portion of the 2015-16 campaign, however, the Flyers have converted just 3-of-20 opportunities (15 percent) with the man advantage and are tied with the Edmonton Oilers for 20th-best in the NHL. Last season, Philadelphia finished third in the league by clicking on 23.4 percent of its power-play chances.

So, what's wrong?

"There's nothing wrong with the power play," forward Wayne Simmonds told NJ.com after the team failed on all four opportunities with the man advantage in a 2-1 setback to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday.

"Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't work. We're getting opportunities. We're getting chances. If we weren't getting chances or opportunities, it may be something to worry about. There's nothing to worry about."

Simmonds saw his point-blank opportunity with the man advantage thwarted by Dallas goaltender Antti Niemi with five minutes remaining in the third period. The 27-year-old Simmonds is still searching for his first goal this season after posting a team-leading 28 in 2014-15.

Worried or not, the Flyers will hit the road to face the team with the best power-play efficiency in the Boston Bruins (38.9 percent) on Wednesday.
